 CUST 2370-6003 introduces students to the contributions of Latino communities, those of Mexican-Americans in the United States, in Texas in general, and in the Mountain View Service area in particular. The variety of countries, religions, and family traditions will be examined through the Spanish language that unifies the diverse Hispanic culture. Students must speak, read and write Spanish at a fluent or advanced level to be successful in this course. For more information contact Prof. Rodriguez at ulisesrodriguez@dcccd.edu. Students in the Mexican American Studies program are encouraged to enroll. This course is concurrent with SPAN 2324-6001. This is a common book course.

Students will learn the basics of volunteering, organizing community members around a common goal and how to identify resources for community based projects. A common project will be selected for enrolled students to implement during the semester.
