Brookhaven College  Summer I 2012 Credit - Senior Adult

DCCC invites members of the community who are 50 years and over to join our growing learning community. To meet demand for lifelong learning, our Senior Adult Programs provide affordable, quality instruction and volunteer opportunities to stimulate you intellectually and physically and help you stay socially connected. Credit and noncredit classes are available during the day, in the evenings and on weekends. Our classes are stimulating and challenging, yet paced for your enjoyment.

 Digital Camera Field Work will cover the various features of a digital camera. Students will learn about the process of transferring photos to the computer, how to take pictures with an eye for computer enhancement and for use in emails and Web pages. Storage and retrieval of digital photos will be reviewed.

 Windows XP, Part I, will introduce all the basics of Windows including the desktop, mouse pointers, start button, taskbar, menus, toolbars and dialog boxes. Students will learn to open and save a file, edit a document in Wordpad and use the copy, cut and paste commands. File management will be introduced.

 PC Troubleshooting will address problems such as a slow-running personal computer or a Windows applications malfunction. This course will investigate some actions you can take: virus, spyware and malware removal, hard drive housekeeping, system restore, recovery console, driver rollback; hardware and software-based performance improvements, reinstalling Windows and backing up the data system.

 Using the Internet/Email will cover how to browse the Internet, access information on your personal computer, store Web addresses and view multiple Web pages concurrently. Also covered will be printing, saving and emailing Web pages as well as understanding the security and privacy issues involved. Students will use reference sites and navigate websites for travel, maps, shopping, banking & finance, health and entertainment. All the basic email functions including setting up contacts, distribution lists and handling spam mail will be covered. Recommended prerequisite: Intro. to Windows.
