Summer 2015 Credit - Senior Adult

DCCC invites members of the community who are 50 years and over to join our growing learning community. To meet demand for lifelong learning, our Senior Adult Programs provide affordable, quality instruction and volunteer opportunities to stimulate you intellectually and physically and help you stay socially connected. Credit and noncredit classes are available during the day, in the evenings and on weekends. Our classes are stimulating and challenging, yet paced for your enjoyment.

 Email with File Management Support will cover file management functions in Windows and how to send emails with or without attachments. Students will learn to determine the type of program needed to open any attached file they receive and how to save the attachment. Windows Explorer functions will be reviewed, enabling students to organize, identify and retrieve the files stored on the hard drive, flash drives, CDs and DVDs. Recommended prerequisites: Windows, Part I and II and experience using the Internet.

 Windows 7, Part II, will cover the use of Windows Explorer in managing your files by viewing, renaming, moving, deleting and organizing both files and folders. Students will learn to personalize Windows by changing the desktop appearance, screen saver and background, customizing the taskbar and the start menu, learning the right-click menu, and using desktop gadgets. Methods to secure your computer will also be covered. Recommended prerequisite: Windows 7, Part I.

 Tips and Tricks for Windows 8 will deal with understanding and using the new features and capabilities of Windows 8. It is designed for students currently using Windows 8 on their computers. Students learn easy ways to search for documents, run programs, reduce Internet risks and threats, and keep their computers running at top speed. Students also get tips on making and editing digital music and video. Recommended prerequisite: Windows, Part I.

Learn how to set up and use Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, social coupons, Instagram and Tumblr and even more in this course. We will set up and start sharing photos on Instagram, set up a Pinterest account and start sharing ideas that we like. Get with the program and go social!
